Pointing the soulful sound of your lap steel in the right direction...

Make a pair of legs to adjust your amp's tilt:

Small tube amp ready for action:

This is such an easy project that it doesn't really need any explanation. I made the set shown a little taller than necessary so I can remove the legs shown on the small tube amp and put them on my 30 watt amp I use as a personal stage monitor. Loosen them up and rotate so the feet are facing up to transport. The nice thing about using this design is its complete flexibility. Find the balance point of your amp by placing it on one side over a section of dowel rod, first vertically and then horizontally. Move the amp up/down and front-to-back to find the balance point. This is where the tee nuts will be installed. Check for any obstructions before drilling!
The top two inches of the inner side of each leg is built out with an additional 1/8" of oak so the legs will clear the amps hardware when tilted.

Amp tilt leg materials

  1. 4 feet of 1" by 2" oak or other hardwood
  2. (4) 1/4" knock down furniture bolts and matching barrel nuts
  3. 2 large knurled knobs with long 1/4"X20 stud
  4. 2 tee nuts, 1/4"X20 by 9/16" long($6)
  5. 2 large 1/4" fender washers
